NRP Certification for Healthcare Professionals

The neonatal resuscitation program will help you learn the cognitive, technical, and teamwork skills needed to both resuscitate and stabilize a newborn. Most newborns make the transition to extrauterine life without requiring intervention. However, some may need additional support to adapt successfully to their new environment.

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of:

  • The neonates in the first minutes of life
  • The neonatal population needing essential lifesaving interventions at birth

What You Will Learn:

  • How to evaluate a newborn
  • Recognition of the high-risk factors needing a team approach to lifesaving interventions
  • Make decisions on what actions are necessary
  • Practice the steps involved in the resuscitation through several simulated cases to improve the proficiency and increase the speed of assisting a newborn
  • Improve the performance of a team approach in the initial minutes of life

Online Prerequisites

Student must complete online precourse work (part 1)

Essentials Course

  • Any professional involved in the care of a newborn
  •  Clinic employees seeing newborns on visits
  •  Covers lessons 1 through 4

Advanced Course

  • Providers responsible for initial steps of caring for the newborn at birth
  •  NICU and L&D professionals
  • Paramedics and any other first responders that may be expected to assist in the care of a newborn immediately after birth
  • Covers lessons 1-11

Instructor-Led (part 2)

Part 2 must be completed within 90 days of completion of part 1
Active participation in the hands-on/skills/simulation portion of the provider course
